art journaling of a sorts!

I really want to try art journaling. I've been collecting pins and sites and have read some books on it, but I just have no idea where to begin. My tangling book I actually bought to art journal in, and just never did so it turned into my tangling book instead (waste not, want not).

I just have no idea where to begin.

I know everyone says to just jump in, and that's great, but I've never painted before, picked up a paintbrush (other than a paint your house paintbrush!) before & have ZERO artist talent. I don't even understand what kind of paints to buy.

I know everyone talks about watercolors, but like what are those?

What should they look like? What kind is good? where do I buy them? LOL I need an art journaling for dummies class....

So my long, long drawn out intro is to intro this... my lame attempt at art journaling...

The text includes my name, one of my current book series (Hunger Games), my goal for this year (Dream big), my favorite place on earth Acadia National Park, and the book I'm currently reading.

Filled in with tangles, of course.

tangling tiles

Two little quick tiles that I made today. They aren't official tangle tiles, but they are the same size as tangle tiles, using cardstock. Usually I like to use my big old artist type journal to tangle in; I have to say, using these smaller sizes is a LOT of fun & so much faster than a big page to do, and I definitely see the appeal!

Which tile do you like better? I actually much prefer the first one, even though there are definitely some "errors" in it. I say "errors" with air quotes because I know there is no such thing as "errors" in tangling!

Joey's challenge #143

I was so brave today, and I did my first tangle challenge! I actually did two, and I don't like either one (though I do like the second one better). It was definitely a lot of fun trying to do a challenge!
I used string #143 (the first time using someone else's string, too) and did Joey's Challenge #46.

Our theme this week was using tangles with "hearty" names. I love hearts and I believe I've done all these heart tangles before, though I'm not terribly good at any of them but I do so enjoy trying to tangle!

I've only been doing this for a few months, and I definitely am seeing an improvement!

I also managed to laminate some bookmarks I've been working on for a while. Some of these I made using scraps of cardstock, but most of them came from one large, 8.5 by 11 piece of cardstock that I tangled as is, and then cut down to size.

I didn't realize that the photo was quite this blurry. I took multiple, multiple shots and this one came out the best (at least on my phone) but on the "big screen" you can see how blurry it is. It's hard to take good photos when it's so gray & gloomy outside!

This is another tangle piece I finished a little while ago, and am just now getting up on the blog.

The theme was "just be" and I worked on this from Jan 11-22.
